Apple-Banana-Spirulina-Detox

Is anyone else still coming off the Halloween sugar high – one week later – like I am? I have an abundance of those almond butter reese’s cup goodie bags just hanging out in my freezer waiting to be indulged and devoured. They are vegan, raw, with no refined sugars or weird emulsifiers, AND guilt free (I repeat to myself a couple 20 times as I reach in the freezer for another one). I have no one to blame but myself. I was the one that made at least 100 reese’s cups, and now I have to eat them. This might also be a result of comforting myself through this election. After all, it is the day after the election. Nerves are high, and I am currently seeking all comfort levels – yak wool blanket from my travels in Nepal, chocolate, tempeh chili, more chocolate (in the form of almond butter reese’s cups), lavender oil diffusing through the studio, and now as a result of a mix of sugar and anxiety – my mind is completely off track…

I will keep my focus on the smoothie. I will direct my energy to nourishing my body with love and care so that I can give as much love and care to the world. After all, where focus goes, energy flows. Despite who our president is, I will continue to live with a full heart, continue to be hopeful for things to come, continue to be grateful for what I have, and continue creating awesome, clean recipes.

Okay. That was my little blurb of how I am currently handling this new presidency. Positivity. Positivity. Positivity. To keep this from being a political post about my feelings – I am now going to redirect it to the star of the show, the velvety Green Apple Smoothie that is the deepest hue of my favorite color and tastes amazing.

I think it is the perfect time to share this.

Spirulina is seriously like magic fairy dust. Not only is the color so rad but it’s actual algae! Yes, that is bacteria and YES you can eat it AND YES! it’s magically delicious. I find this kind of stuff just so cool, don’t you? Nature is fascinating in its patterns, ecosystem, abundance (considering the effects of mankind), its beauty, and endless in its healing. Medicine started from the raw materials of nature and that to me is enough to have respect for this world we live in and do all that I can to lessen my imprint. But I will do all that I can in discovering more healing bacteria like spirulina. I mean who is the one that discovered that actually eating an algae that grows in freshwater rivers and lakes is a nutrient that is highly beneficial to the human body?

It’s ironic how I stumbled across this fairy dust. I was catering a baby shower for one of my girlfriends on Oahu. She was having a baby boy and the shower was themed with dreamcatchers, feathers, mandalas, and lots of foliage and succulents. As you can guess the color scheme was hues of green and teal – all my favorites. As soon as I started my research on naturally dying my vegan cake frosting to get hues of green – I stumbled across spirulina. Not only does this stuff dye the most amazing tones of green (and everything else around it) but it is actual magic fairy dust.

Guys, no joke. This fairy dust actively promotes cell regeneration for renewal and regrowth in our bodies and the ecosystem. Its most natural and basic function is resiliency to fluctuations, damages, and other harmful secondary effects. I think we can all agree that resiliency is something we all need every once and awhile, especially at this moment in time. And of course, love and peace.

It’s magic. Well, I say magic in a sense of the word that I find natural healing remedies mind bogaling (in a good way, not in a November 8th, 2016 kind of way). So I found it funny to be dying sugary sweet frosting with this –

// Immune Boosting

Detoxifying

Rejuvenating

Hang Over Elixir

Beneficial for those undergoing chemotherapy

Helps Digestion \\

– algae.

To quote, “eases the passage of waste through the digestive system, thereby reducing stress on the entire system.”

Win. I will be finding every which way to eat a spoonful of this for the weeks to come.

I’m telling you friends, I want to elaborate more on each and every one of these stellar characteristics because it’s just so darn cool. But, I will spare your time and mine and get to writing the recipe out for you.

(Note for a later post, “Magic Fairy Dust” and all the reasons why you need it in your life.)

This recipe takes few ingredients in comparison to the abundance of powers it contains. I feel like it’s a win when I am able to say that in a post. All you need is Spirulina (aka Magic Fairy Dust), ginger, lemon or lime juice, green apple, frozen banana (or apple banana), coconut milk, and optional protein powder. If you’d like some help finding a protein powder that suits you best, try Paleo Greens Powder or Bovine Protein Powder where you can find on Amazon. And no, these are not sponsored links. I do not get paid if you click and purchase these items. I just love the Paleo Pro brand so much that I want to share it with you. Knowledge is wealth.

Where to get your hands on some magic fairy dust? You guessed it 😀 Amazon! My other love in life. This is the brand of Spirulina that I choose. So happy Amazon shopping, smoothie making, and spirulina drinking. O! one more thing… can you please just enjoy how cute and adorable these apples are?

Apple

I found them at the Kailua Whole Foods, and I can’t get over them. I mean look how giant my hand looks! I am now wanting to make my coconut sugar caramel sauce and dip them in it… baby caramel apples <3.

So, I wrap up this post with a new mantra for the days ahead and some words to make you feel a little rainbows and butterflies inside.

Positivity.

Love.

Respect.

Peace.
